Pradaxa Manufacturer Cherry-Picking Risk Data

Monday, October 06, 2014By Richard Alexander

Best-selling drug Pradaxa has been a popular alternative to the blood-thinner warfarin. Unfortunately, its safety track record has been less than stellar. Earlier this year, an article published by Fierce Pharma outlined the latest scandal surrounding the controversial and dangerous drug Pradaxa. On going litigation against the Pradaxa’s manufacturer, Boehringer Ingelheim, is bringing new information to light about research practices and disclosure of risk data. It appears as though they cherry-picked data in some kind of effort to make their drug look safer than it actually is.

Disclosure of Bleeding Risk

At this time, Boehringer Ingelheim is facing about 2,000 lawsuits alleging that they did not adequately warn about the bleeding risks involved with Pradaza. The big selling point of Pradaxa has been the convenience of not having one’s blood levels routinely checked. Unfortunately, this so-called convenience does not come without considerable risk to patients, of which many have had fatal bleeding incidents. Most egregiously, patients were not warned about the risks involved.

Calling on Full Data Disclosure from Big Pharma

Advocates and concerned citizens are calling on full data disclosure from these large multi-national pharmaceutical companies. So much of their business models are built on secrecy and proprietary trade secrets. The business is making and selling drugs, and business is good. In the first half of 2013, Pradaxa generated $811 million for Boehringer Ingelheim. This is why it’s absolutely critical to have full data and research results disclosure from these multi-billion dollar corporations. It’s not in their best interest to disclose the unfavorable results, so we need to insist.

What to do After a Drug Injury

If you have been injured by an unsafe drug you need to speak with a personal injury lawyer with drug injury experience as soon as possible. Disclosing risk data and safety information can impact a pharmaceutical company’s bottom line, and if they’re not held accountable for unethical and greedy practices, they will continue to injure and kill innocent patients. If drug manufacturers aren't forthcoming with safety information and risk data, they need to be held accountable. If you have lost a loved one due to uncontrolled bleeding while on Pradaxa, contact the skilled team at Alexander Law Group, LLP for a free consultation today.

While the results that we have obtained in other cases and our clients' testimonials do not guarantee, promise or predict the outcome of your case, we do promise to do our very best for you in your case.
