Defective Briggs & Stratton and Craftsman Surface Cleaners

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently issued a press release about a defective Briggs & Stratton surface cleaner that is currently under recall. According to the CPSC, this recall involves the 3000 PSI Briggs & Stratton and Craftsman branded pressure washer surface cleaners. The recall has been issued because the surface cleaner’s spray bar can break. If it breaks, it can detach from the central hub. Broken pieces can come lose and strike consumers, which poses an injury hazard. At this time, approximately 201,000 units are being recalled.

Details of The Briggs & Stratton Surface Cleaner Recall

These surface cleaners were originally sold at Briggs & Stratton dealers, Lowe’s and a variety of other hardware and home improvement stores nationwide and online between March 2010 and February 2018. They came in black, red or gray and are branded either Briggs & Stratton or Craftsman. These surface cleaners connect to a pressure washer that is rated up to 3000 PSI.

Injury Causing Defective Product

At this time, there have been five reports of the surface cleaner’s spray bar detaching from the central hub. At least one of those reports involves the spray bar striking an operator. That person did suffer from a laceration, which required sutures. If you have one of these defective surface cleaners, stop using it immediately and contact Briggs & Stratton for a free replacement.
