California Mobile App Offers Perks for Designated Drivers

Tuesday, November 14, 2017By Richard Alexander

You’ve been looking forward to this night out with your friends for weeks. After several late nights at the office, it’s definitely time to unwind and have some fun. But then you remember that you’ve agreed to be the designated driver. So much for a fun, relaxing night. Being a designated driver can be a drag. But then your friend tells you about DDVIP, a mobile app from the state of California that offers special perks to designated drivers. You download the app and are excited to see the number of discounts and freebies offered by participating bars. In fact, the bar you’re planning to go to has some special offers. Maybe this night out won’t be so bad after all.

DDVIP is a mobile app sponsored and developed by the State of California Office of Transportation Safety (OTS). It’s designed to treat designated drivers like VIPs by giving them exclusive discounts and freebies at a number of participating restaurants and bars throughout California.

The DDVIP app is available as a free download on both iOS and Android devices. The app allows users to search all participating bars and restaurants in California or “Map a Spot” with their location to find DDVIP partnering establishments in their area. The app also allows users to order a sober ride through Uber or Lyft from one screen.

Designated sober drivers can use the “Offer” tab in the app to redeem exclusive deals and share with friends on social media. The offers from participating restaurant and bars to designated sober drivers include free non-alcoholic drinks (known as “DDrinks”) as well as other types of perks. Apart from the mobile app, OTS also partners with RADD, the Entertainment Industry’s Voice for Road Safety, which offers the RADD Card, a prepaid card for cab rides.

California is taking the lead in developing programs to discourage drunk driving. The DDVIP mobile app is just one way to encourage people to select a designated driver. Selecting a designated driver is so important as drunk driving ruins lives. If you or family member are the unfortunate victim of a drunk driving accident, call us immediately to discuss your rights. The knowledgeable attorneys at Alexander Law Group have extensive experience litigating drunk driving cases and can help you determine who to sue and how to achieve the highest possible recovery.
