The faulty ignition switches in certain GM model vehicles are now being blamed for at least 12 deaths and 31 crashes. According to Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety (CARS), dealers and manufacturers are currently lobbying congress in an attempt to kill the Raechel and Jacqueline Houck Rental Car Safety Act, which would prohibit rental car companies from renting unsafe and recalled vehicles to the public unless the necessary repairs have been conducted.
