On Tuesday a 75-year-old man was struck by a car and killed while crossing Capitol Expressway around 4:15 p.m., according to the San Jose Police Department.

The death of the as yet unidentified man marks the sixth traffic-related fatality of 2013 for the City of San Jose.

The man, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by a white 1997 Toyota in the eastbound lanes about 200 yards west of McLaughlin Avenue, according to San Jose police.

The 16-year-old driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigators. According to the police drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the collision.
Paramedics on the scene performed life-saving measures on the 75-year-old victim and he was taken to Regional Medical Center, but was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m
